EOC ALERT 11 - Tropical Storm Elsa

CURRENT SITUATION

Tropical Storm Elsa is now north of West Central Florida and continues to move away from the area. As Elsa moves away so do all the hazards associated with it. All watches and warnings have been lifted for coastal and inland Hernando County.

Residents living along the river and in low-lying, flood prone areas are urged to closely monitor river levels towards the weekend and take precautions as needed to protect life and property. Be prepared to move to higher ground if necessary.

The Emergency Operations Center has transitioned back to Level 3 – Monitoring and the Public Information Center is now closed. Please reach out to the Hernando County Sheriff’s non-emergency line at (352) 754-6830 for storm-related questions. If there is an emergency, please dial 911.

RECOMMENDED ACTIONS

  • Do not drive through standing water. Turn around, don’t drown
  • Do not operate generators indoors or in an enclosed space
  • Report power outages to:
    • Duke – (800) 228-8485
    • Withlacoochee River Electric – (352) 596-4000, option 2
  • Monitor river gauges at: http://water.weather.gov/ahps2/index.php?wfo=tbw
  • Register for automated severe weather notifications at http://www.AlertHernando.org
  • Residents are encouraged to monitor to local media outlets or the National Weather Service at https://www.weather.gov/tbw/ for current weather information.
