Hernando County has a vast area of tidal tributaries, spring-fed estuaries and expansive sea grass beds which provide unique and recreational opportunities to residents and visitors.

The Aquatic Services Department was created to assist in efforts to protect and enhance our vital freshwater and marine resources and promote recreation and tourism on the waterways in a manner that will preserve and improve the natural ecosystem. This includes conducting waterways maintenance and providing guidance to the Port Authority.
